Trump Imposes 50% Tariff on Brazil: Coffee Prices May Rise Again

President Trump has imposed a 50% import tariff on Brazil, which may not bode well for American coffee lovers. As the world's largest coffee consumer, the U.S. heavily relies on Brazil, which supplies over a third of the country's green coffee beans according to the USDA.
If the new tariff goes into effect, American consumers will face further price increases following several years of soaring coffee prices. Brazil is the largest coffee bean producer globally, and this new tariff could significantly impact not only Brazilian suppliers but also numerous American chains like Starbucks, which could face rising raw material costs.
Before the tariff takes effect on August 1, there is still time for the Brazilian government to negotiate with the White House. The American food and beverage industry has called for exemptions for agricultural products that cannot be produced domestically, with coffee beans being a primary example.
Many U.S. coffee brands may be compelled to raise prices again. Tom Madrecki noted that there are almost no solutions for products that cannot be grown in the U.S.
