US-Japan-Taiwan Drill: CCP's Surprise Landing on Taiwan's East Coast Seizes 'Gateway to Taiwan' Faster Than Expected

Today (11th), the "Taiwan Strait Defense Drill" concluded with a simulation where the People's Liberation Army (PLA) of China launched a full-scale invasion, notably choosing to conduct a surprise landing on the eastern coast, resulting in the rapid loss of Penghu. According to the scenario, the first operational area reported severe damage to most military targets due to joint fire assaults by the PLA, with numerous amphibious landing vehicles spotted in the southeastern waters off Magong Island. Reports of enemy helicopter landings and assaults in the areas of Xiyu and Baisha are still under verification.
Subsequently, U.S. satellite intelligence confirmed that Penghu Island had been captured by enemy forces, with a significant number of vessels unloading at Magong Port. Videos uploaded by Penghu residents showing PLA activities, including a large number of helicopters, drones, transport aircraft, various tanks, armored vehicles, and air defense missiles near Magong Airport, went viral online.
A spokesperson from China's Ministry of National Defense confirmed the recovery of Penghu, advising Taiwan to recognize the situation and cease pointless resistance. Moreover, Taiwan's side received intelligence from U.S. sources indicating that a PLA amphibious landing fleet had departed from Ningbo and Zhanjiang, with targets aimed at northern and southern Taiwan waters.
Notably, Taiwan’s chief exercise officer, General Hu Zhenpu, mentioned that the rapid loss of Penghu is significant, as it serves as a critical gateway to Taiwan. Once Penghu is lost, logistical support for the PLA will be able to flow continuously. This exercise not only reassessed the operational capabilities for the defense of Taiwan and Penghu but also sought to explore potential solutions.
