U.S. White House National Security Council Begins Layoffs Amid Internal Turmoil

Multiple sources have revealed that as President Trump takes steps to reduce the staffing of the White House National Security Council, layoffs commenced on Friday (23rd), affecting several employees.
According to reports from Politico, the Trump administration plans to cut the council's staff from around 350 to fewer than 150, with some sources indicating the final number may be about 50.
Additionally, Reuters reported that most of those laid off were involved with significant geopolitical issues. As part of the restructuring, certain departments of the National Security Council are expected to merge with other agencies or be entirely eliminated. Sources stated that this move aims to further diminish the National Security Council's influence, transforming it from a powerful policymaking body into a smaller organization focused more on 'execution' rather than 'formulation' of presidential agendas, granting more power to the State Department and the Department of Defense.
Two sources described chaotic scenes as some departing staff members were seen crying within the Eisenhower Executive Office Building.
The White House National Security Council provides national security and foreign policy advice to the President, participates in decision-making, and serves as a coordinating body among various government departments.
