US Pressures Japan and Australia to Take a Stance on Taiwan Conflict

According to foreign media, the United States has recently pressured Japan and Australia to clarify their positions regarding a hypothetical conflict over Taiwan. This demand contradicts the US long-standing policy of "strategic ambiguity," leaving both nations feeling disappointed.

Reports indicate that five unnamed sources revealed that Elbridge Colby, a senior official at the US Department of Defense, has been discussing Taiwan-related issues with defense officials from Japan and Australia in recent months. While former President Biden has suggested US intervention, former President Trump did not provide a clear commitment.

Expert Zack Cooper noted that asking allies to make commitments regarding Taiwan is unrealistic, as the US itself has not offered any explicit guarantees. Ultimately, Japan's Ministry of Defense emphasized that it is difficult to provide specific answers to hypothetical questions about Taiwan's emergency situations.
