Zhang Zhihun Conceals US Property Amid Recall Controversy: Accused of Losing Public Trust

The Shuanghe recall team has sternly criticized Zhang Zhihun, urging him to "know what is right and proper." As the recall movement gains momentum, 24 legislators from the Kuomintang will vote on July 26. However, Zhang Zhihun has been accused of failing to disclose a California property owned by his wife, Peng Han.

According to reports, Peng bought the single-family home in June 2018 for $580,000 (approximately NT$17 million), which is now estimated to be worth between $850,000 and $1 million (about NT$25 million to NT$29 million). Yet, last March, Zhang's financial disclosure did not include this asset, although his office claimed all declarations were completed.

The Shuanghe team pointed out that the core issue is not the ownership of overseas property but Zhang's choice to conceal facts as a current legislator, undermining the trust placed in public officials by voters. The recall team emphasized that the recall effort is not an attack on the Kuomintang, but rather a demand for the party to uphold integrity.

Zhang is expected to represent the people with integrity and transparency; if this was merely an oversight, it reflects poorly on his administrative capabilities. If it was intentional concealment, it could suggest legal violations, disqualifying him from serving as an elected representative. The team stated that what is needed in Zhonghe is a legislator who can lead by example, not a politician who hides the truth and lies to cover mistakes.

The recall group reiterated that this action is not aimed at a political party but an accountability measure for underperforming legislators. They urged Zhang Zhihun to publicly explain and apologize for concealing assets, underscoring that while owning overseas property is not a crime, lying and breaking the law are unforgivable ethical failures.
