A large oil truck is wedged on the edge of a collapsed bridge, creating a terrifying scene. Beneath the bridge, vehicles are overturned in the river as locals rush to conduct rescues. This bridge collapse occurred in the western Indian state of Gujarat on Wednesday morning around 7 AM during peak traffic hours. The bridge, which is 39 years old and 830 meters long, suddenly fractured, with approximately 15 to 20 meters of the roadway collapsing into the river.

Nearby residents heard a loud noise and quickly rushed to the scene. Local eyewitnesses reported, "Around 7:15 AM, when I learned of the news, I hurried to the scene and saw a rickshaw, a truck, an SUV, and a bus that had fallen into the river. We promptly notified the authorities, and rescue personnel soon arrived." Official sources state that at least six vehicles fell into the river, and rescue crews worked tirelessly.

Local officials mentioned that "two vehicles were hanging off the edge of the bridge, and we quickly rescued them. Other motorcyclists managed to escape on their own." Indian media reported that concerns about the safety of this bridge had been raised by local officials as early as August 2022, who requested safety inspections. Recently, funding for renovations was approved, but before any work could commence, this tragic event occurred. The death toll continues to rise, with several individuals still missing. This incident once again highlights the longstanding issues of poor bridge quality and inadequate maintenance in India. Statistics show that over the past five years, twelve bridges in Gujarat have collapsed or suffered significant structural damage.
