Scholar Analyzes the Impact of China's Sanctions on Taiwan's Military Industry

Reports indicate that the Ministry of Commerce of China has announced today (9th) that it has added eight Taiwanese military enterprises to its export control list, including Hanxiang Aerospace, Jingwei Aviation, and International Shipbuilding. Professor Shen Rongqin from York University noted that this sanction is primarily a warning, with its symbolic meaning outweighing its practical effects. He suggested that China aims to alert Taiwanese citizens and encourage the blue-and-white parties, mentioning that Huang Kuo-chang has frequently been cited by Chinese state media to oppose the upcoming mass recall movement.

As the mass recall date approaches, Shen observed that criticisms and warnings from Chinese state media have intensified, with the Chinese Communist Party clearly opposing the mass recall movement initiated by Taiwanese civic groups against Kuomintang legislators. Should the blue-and-white parties lose their majority in Congress, this would hinder ongoing strategies by Wang Huning of the CCP to shape the political landscape in Taiwan, thus prompting these sanctions as a warning to Taiwanese citizens and to motivate blue-and-white legislators to continue obstructing the efforts of Taiwan's military sector.
