Minister Lin Chia-lung Visits Paraguay to Celebrate 68th Anniversary of Diplomatic Relations Amid Sensitive Tariff Negotiations with the U.S.

At a crucial moment in U.S.-Taiwan tariff negotiations, Foreign Minister Lin Chia-lung led a delegation of business representatives to visit Paraguay, a South American ally, on the occasion of the 68th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Taiwan and Paraguay. The visit includes meetings with Paraguayan President Santiago Peña and Foreign Minister Rubén Ramírez, as well as co-hosting a celebratory reception to underscore the close ties between the two countries.

As the deadline for the U.S. equivalent tariff's extension approaches, President Lai Ching-te also held a video conference with the negotiating team in the U.S. The Foreign Minister expressed that he would depart for Paraguay during Taiwan's late-night hours.

The Foreign Ministry noted that since taking office, Lin Chia-lung has actively promoted a diplomatic strategy encompassing value-led diplomacy, alliance diplomacy, and economic diplomacy, deepening Taiwan's international connections to foster regional peace and security. This trip aims to review the achievements of the 'Honorable Allies Plan,' including the Taiwan-Paraguay Smart Technology Park and electric bus pilot program, while also planning to leverage Taiwan's technological advantages for Paraguay's tech industry development.

Lin is leading representatives from various sectors such as semiconductors, communications, and smart transportation to enhance bilateral trade exchanges and strengthen the supply chain connections between Taiwan and Paraguay.
