A tragic incident occurred on July 8 at Bergamo Airport in Milan, Italy, where a man was inhaled by an operating aircraft engine after entering the runway. According to Italian media reports, the man, believed to be between 30 and 35 years old, somehow accessed the runway through a security gate from the baggage claim area and ran directly towards a Volotea Airlines Airbus A319 preparing for takeoff.

The incident happened around 10:20 AM local time on Tuesday (8th), causing Bergamo Airport to cease operations for approximately two hours, affecting over ten flights that were either canceled or diverted. Authorities have yet to clarify the cause of the incident, but initial reports suggest it may have been a suicide.

Officials discovered a vehicle in the parking lot in front of the airport's arrivals hall, which may belong to the deceased. The investigation is ongoing, and police have deployed forensic personnel while providing psychological support to the affected passengers.
