Chinese Coast Guard Vessel Repeatedly Intrudes into Restricted Waters near Dongsha, 18 Incursions This Year

The Chinese Coast Guard vessel '3302' entered the restricted waters 26 nautical miles northwest of Dongsha Island on July 2. In response, Taiwan's Coast Guard dispatched the 'Yunlin' vessel to monitor and broadcast a warning to leave. The vessel left the restricted area early on July 3, moving eastward 34.5 nautical miles away. According to the Coast Guard, there have been 18 incursions by 8 Chinese vessels in the restricted waters near Dongsha since January this year.
The Coast Guard stated that between January and June, it has expelled 37 Chinese illegal fishing vessels and detained 8 smaller boats. Despite being in the closed fishing season, Chinese fishing vessels continue to operate, indicating a lack of effective management by China. The Coast Guard urged the Chinese government to restrain its fishing boats from illegal activities that could harm marine ecology.
The Coast Guard emphasized its commitment to dispatching larger ships to strengthen monitoring of the Dongsha waters and to safeguard national sovereignty and sustainable resource development.
